Inspect & Pump Frequently

Service Schedule

It’s important to ensure your septic system is functioning properly at all times.  A typical schedule is to have your system professionally inspected every 3 years and the tank pumped and cleaned every 3-5 years.  The need to pump can vary depending on the use and septic tank size.

High-efficiency toilets, faucet and shower aerators, and ENERGY STAR certified washing machines can significantly reduce the amount of gray water dumped into your septic tank.  Promptly repairing any leaking faucets and running toilets can easily prevent hundreds of gallons of extra water from entering your tank.

What are the top maintenance tips?

Dispose of Waste Properly

Avoid pouring grease, paint, and other chemicals down the drain.  Never flush wipes, diapers, female hygiene products, dental floss, Q-tips, paper towles, or any other non-human waste products.

Maintain Your Drainfield

Do not drive over or park on your septic system drainage field lines.  Take care not to plant trees or shrubs in the drainfield area, as their roots can quickly cause significant damage to the lines, which can result in the need for costly repairs.

Use Water Efficiently

Keep in mind – all running water inside your home drains through your septic tank.  Be sure to repair any plumbing issues immediately.  A dripping faucet or running toilet can quickly add a significant amount of water to the septic tank.
